The Ladies

I'm Simone

MD candidate, creator of Mantra and lover of all things Health! I'm Here to show you that being healthy doesn't mean changing who you are.

After graduating from the University of Toronto, I gave myself one year to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. In that year I volunteered, worked in finance and did a ton of soul searching-- I found myself asking people about their passions, aspirations, and hopes. I discovered quickly that few people were living their dreams and everyone was living with regret. It became clear to me how important it was to find my purpose.

After a year of monitoring accounts and watching colleagues (especially women) neglect their health I made the decision to help people. Inspire them through education to make healthy decisions so that nothing could hinder pursuit of their dreams.

We provide answers to the questions that really matter to women. We are 100% transparent, our discussions include information that is supported by trusted sources, research papers and Medical Journals. We embrace diversity, welcome feedback and exist to inspire. Our values are at the core of everything we do.

I’m Suganya.

I’m an avid reader that dabbles in writing, a foodie with a penchant for all things spicy, a part time storyteller, a self -confessed Prince musicologist, a perpetual dreamer, and in the business of the eternal pursuit of knowledge. Starting from an island across the world to the diversity that encompasses the 6ix; my life’s journey has been anything but typical. Through it all, I have learned that perseverance, hard work, and more than a little bit of humour can put things into perspective and take you a very long way. Never give up hope.

When I am not busy dreaming up the next big adventure; I am working on my MD with the hopes of making a positive difference within the broader community. I have a particular interest in social commentary pertaining to minority issues, gender equity, women’s empowerment and health.

As Mantra’s Executive Contributor, my aim and hope is to create and engage in a dialogue for women, with woman, regarding women’s health issues. Ultimately, I hope that we can inspire and empower each other to be better and reach for greatness. Let’s look beyond the glass ceiling and put ourselves first.

And just perhaps you’ll join me down a path less travelled and maybe, just maybe, we can embark on that road not taken and discover mysteries that await.

So here’s to you; dear reader … the woman.

I’m Victoria.

I’m someone who loves to eat, laugh and dance! Those three things are probably my favorite things to do aside from actually cooking food. I work full time as a Cook and have been for the last 6 years. I stumbled upon my passion for cooking a few years ago, while volunteering through an organization where I got to cook for youth. I had so much fun with it! Knowing I made people happy by filling their tummies gave me such joy. That’s when I decided to pursue this passion and go to culinary school.

I enjoy cooking with spices from a variety cultures and love dishes from, India, Asia, West Indies, Caribbean and Mexican, to name a few. I would describe my cooking as Canadian- fusion inspired by West Indian, Mexican and Asian food.  I may be a Canadian born girl but the spices from other countries have my heart.

I am honored to be a part of the Mantra team, to give people easy to follow recipes that are quick, because let’s face it, many of us these days don’t have time to cook anymore. One of my favorite childhood memories was sitting at the table eating dinner with my family. I think it’s still important to try and have these moments with family and friends. Where you can take time out and make lasting memories with your loved ones.  I hope to inspire women by sharing recipes that are easy to prepare and quick, so you all can enjoy meal-time without stress.

Cooking should not be a chore- it should be fun! Play your favorite song, dance a little, laugh a lot and enjoy the aroma’s of great tasting food!
